PRESS RELEASE

Zeroboard Launches Decarbonization Management Support in Thailand with Five Business Partners

日本語でのプレスリリースはこちら

〜 Aims to visualize supply chain emissions in Asia, starting with expansion into Thailand 〜

Zeroboard, Inc. (Minato-ku, Tokyo, CEO: Michitaka Tokeiji, “the Company”), in line with its five partners: Nagase & Co., Ltd., MUFG Bank, Ltd., Toyota Tsusho Corporation, Mitsubishi Corporation, and Sumitomo Corporation starts operations in Thailand, aiming to support decarbonization management throughout Asia in the future.

The Company has developed and provides “zeroboard,” a cloud service to calculate and visualize greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, to corporations and local governments, which approximately 1,800 businesses, mainly including public companies, have subscribed. Zeroboard can calculate GHG emissions from your own activities (Scope 1 and 2) and those of your supply chain (Scope 3). In particular, our strength in Scope 3 calculations is that we collect not only standard values published by the Ministry of the Environment and other entities, but also primary data (actual values from the suppliers), which enables us to reflect suppliers’ reduction efforts in the calculated values and link them to the overall supply chain reduction.

As the movement toward decarbonization accelerates globally, public companies are required to disclose climate-related financial information (risk and opportunity analysis, GHG emissions indicators, etc.) in addition to financial statements, and present concrete measures to address the issue. We have many clients, major companies that have been working to reduce energy consumption at their domestic sites for some time, asking us to help them visualize the emissions, which is important to further decarbonize their supply chain partners and overseas manufacturing sites, where there is still room for further emissions reduction.

That being said, we have decided to start the support in decarbonization management in Asia with five partners who have various business transactions with overseas manufacturing sites and supply chains and those who aim to decarbonize their operations. Starting with the calculation of corporate GHG emissions by Zeroboard, we will contribute to the decarbonization of the Asian manufacturing supply chain in cooperation with Nagase, Toyota Tsusho, Mitsubishi Corporation, and Sumitomo Corporation. In addition, MUFG Bank will provide sustainable finance solutions and other services to support the implementation of reductions.

As the first step in our Asian expansion, we have implemented the following functions to help Japanese companies expand into Thailand, where many of them have manufacturing bases.

Multilanguage Implementation: Thai Language

The Thai version was implemented on Wednesday, August 24, 2022 for calculation work by Asian offices, group companies, supply chain, and non-Japanese users. We had English version implemented earlier in April this year, and further multilingual support is planned.

Customization Features of Emission Intensity

In addition to the input-output database published by the Ministry of the Environment of Japan, the Company has already begun to provide users with emission intensity data from major overseas countries through in-house research of emission intensity data published by their governments and through licensee agreements with major international emission intensity databases. Users of zeroboard can also import and use their own external emission intensity databases.

The Company will exhibit our zeroboard at the ASEAN SUSTAINABLE ENERGY WEEK 2022 (https://www.asew-expo.com/2022/en/index.asp) to be held in Bangkok, Thailand from Wednesday, September 14th. Taking this opportunity, we will further expand the circle of collaboration with domestic and overseas companies and promote global decarbonization together with our partners.

Comments from Each Company

・NAGASE & CO., LTD. President & CEO Kenji Asakura
We are very pleased to begin this new expansion with Zeroboard in Asia, where the need for decarbonization is growing. Nagase has been operating in the area for many years and maintains strong relationships with a wide range of supply chains, mainly in the sale of chemicals, plastics, and other materials. Through the spread of zeroboard, we will take part in supporting local companies to manage their businesses in a decarbonized way and provide them with new value.

・Toyota Tsusho Corporation Vice President Toshimitsu Imai
We are very pleased to collaborate with Zeroboard, a leading GHG emissions calculation and visualization platform provider, in its Asian expansion, starting with their entry into Thailand.
Thailand is one of the most focused regions in Asia for us, with a large number of customers, especially in the automotive industry, and the need to visualize and reduce GHG emissions is rapidly increasing. By combining Zeroboard’s calculation and visualization platform with our various solutions toward reduction, we will contribute to our customers’ carbon neutrality in Asia and continue to be a leading circular economy provider in order to deliver a better global environment to future generations.

・Mitsubishi Corporation Division COO of the Mobility Business Division Naoya Takai
As the Asian region is expected to accelerate the pace of reducing carbons and/or decarbonizing, Zeroboard, a frontrunner in cloud services for calculating and visualizing GHG emissions, launching the decarbonization management support in Asia starting with Thailand, means something very significant. Mitsubishi Corporation hopes to contribute to realizing a low-carbon society in Asia by supporting Zeroboard through its long-standing knowledge of the manufacturing supply chain in Asia.

・Zeroboard Inc. CEO Michitaka Tokeiji
In order for Japanese companies to maintain their presence in the world of “monozukuri” (manufacturing), we believe it is very important that zeroboard from Japan becomes the global de facto standard as a supply chain emissions calculation platform. We are very pleased to be working with leading Japanese companies to expand our business in Asia, starting with Thailand, and we are committed to the responsibility we must take on while doing so. With this alliance, we will grow even stronger to contribute to the realization of a decarbonized society.
